WASHINGTON--(BUSINESS WIRE)--QED Technologies Inc. (QED) of Rochester, New York, has been selected as a winner of the 2007 Tibbetts Award. QED will receive the award during a ceremony hosted by the Small Business Technology Council (SBTC) on Oct. 10 in Washington, D.C.
Named for Roland Tibbetts, acknowledged as the father of the Small Business Innovation Research (SBIR) program, these prestigious national awards are made annually to small firms, projects, organizations and individuals judged to exemplify the very best in SBIR achievement. QED is one of 55 companies in the U.S. to receive this award and was selected from over 4,000 companies that receive contracts and grants under the SBIR program each year.
Since its inception in 1996, QED has participated in over 20 Phase I and II SBIR contracts primarily for the U.S. Army, U.S. Navy and NASA, and with the assistance of SBIR funding, has developed and commercialized a portfolio of polishing systems that have changed the way optics firms manufacture and measure optics today. These optics finishing and metrology technologies have enabled optics firms to produce optics better, faster and cheaper resulting in greater productivity and increased customer satisfaction. "We would like to formally acknowledge our sponsors at the Department of Defense and NASA," said Marc Tricard, Director of Business Development for QED. "Their support has not only aided QED in developing breakthrough technologies for these important organizations, but to serve the global optics manufacturing community as well."
QED has received numerous awards for its business development and technology contributions and has been recognized at local and national levels. Currently, QED has 21 U.S. patents.
